that haunts the skyline
you go down the 101
& it sits a flicker away from total darkness
towering
a warning of what you can become
if you overstay your welcome
in this seraph city
it beckons sometimes
a threat
a tease
reminding you of what could arrive
& what has passed
that first year you tried
to
outrun
the swamp
